IBM Software Universe 2006

Recently I had a chance to attend the IBM Software Universe 2006, held in Mumbai at the Renaissance Hotel. It was the first time I was attending a seminar organized by some other organization. I have organized many in Symbiosis, but this was the first time I was attending any seminar outside Sumbiosis. It was like our seminars but they spend a lot more on food and it was good as well. I will suggest the same to my alma mater.

There were some good speakers present at the seminar, including Guy Kawasaki and I had a chance to interact with him one to one over a cup of coffee. He is a charismatic person, can inspire anyone to follow his dreams in just a few minutes. I also had a chance to talk to people from NIC who launched the India portal, had a discussion with them regarding how they can use wikis, blogs and other means to have more user generated content on their portal.

Later in the evening I had a chance to ask a panel of speakers at a spl show for CNN about how our generation is having great ideas and opportunities but we are little impatient. I wanted the group to comment on the importance of patience but they misinterpreted me that I have got ideas and I am a money hungry guy. I was made to look foolish on national television, but I don’t think many people saw that show.

Later during the tea I had a chance to talk to Prahlad Kakkar and head of C2W.com and I clarified my question to them. Prahlad was especially more interested in the idea of need to mentor the younger generation. What I think is that the generation before us made their first billion in more than 20 years while we are doing that in a span on 2 – 3 years. We have opportunities, we have access to easy money, thanks to booming job market, but we have little patience we want money right now. I think that’s not a healthy attitude and the generation before us can help us here, by just guiding us how be little bit more patience. The older generation should not force their idea on us because the ecosystem has changed over the years and we understand this eco system better than them. At the same time or generation should not disregard the older generation as they had lot more patience than us. They kept pursuing their dream for 15 – 20 years before they made fortune with their idea. Can we think of that long?? I don’t think so. So we should respect them for that and also learn from them this trait.

I thought while going through :
1. the final sip of juice I had at Renaissance and enjoying the music and songs by KK.
